When I first heard an animal speak, I was surprised. I knew other people who could do it, but certainly not me. I mean, who am I? This is a gift you’re born with, right?

It is. It is a gift you are born with.

A gift that we are ALL born with.

The other day, I was doing a consult with a client whose pet had died. I reached out to him, and he hadn’t passed over yet. He refused to pass over.

So I contacted her and she said, “Oh yeah, I know. The night he died, I woke up and he was standing in the doorway to the bedroom. He still had only 3 legs, so I figured he hadn’t crossed over yet. He asked me where my husband was and so I told him that he was down the hall. So he just left without saying a word. ”

“It was freaky,” she said. “Because I just talked to him with my mind.”

This client of mine has never taken my class or any other communication workshop, it just happened.

When an intuitive experience happens to you, life changes. And when one intuitive door opens, like you hear an animal talk, other intuitive doors open too.

You’ll find your intuitive senses heightened, which can be a truly amazing experience. At least, it’s been that way for me.

It can change your life in ways you can’t imagine.

I hope you’ll consider taking my next workshop. It starts on February 1st. It’s a teleclass that you can take from anywhere.

You hear it all the time, right?

Animals are special. Animals are holy. Animals are evolved spiritual beings. They're here to show us our purpose. They're here with a message for the planet.

It is hard to keep this in mind when your little Buddha has just done his business on your new rug.

Why this dichotomy?

Pets are like people. When pets are born, a wise soul merges with a new body. This body may be a perfect fit, with a brain predisposed to a wise countenance, letting the soul shine through.

Or, not so much.

Animal Communicators can talk at the soul level or at what I call the person-to-person conversation level.

At the soul level, we're talking with the soul of the animal. We may be talking about purpose or learning or past lives or God or philosophy, etc.

At the person-to-person normal level, we're talking about what they like to do and what behaviors they'd like to get rid of.

It's easiest to direct connect to a soul when the animal is in heaven, because you don't have the body run interference.

I know an animal communicator who once sniffed to me that she only talked with the animal's higher power.

That's great, but it's not the higher power that just did that your rug.

Some animal communicators can also talk with your pet's angels! I only do this when I'm trying to get as much information as I can on a lost or dying pet case. I figure that the angels are there mostly for your pet's soul's benefit. They have enough to do without having to talk with me!

Oh, people. People, people, people! Get ahold of yourselves! Stop stressing your pets out!

Here’s what I’m hearing a lot of these days:

- My dog is scared to go outside.

-My cat won’t come out from under the bed.

-My dog is gaining A LOT of weight.

- My dog is hiding food around the house.

-My dog snapped at his friend. He’s NEVER done that before.

-My dog gets scared at the park, and won’t come when I call him.

-Why is my dog’s tail tucked all the time?

-My dog is losing his mind when he sees another dog. He NEVER used to do this before.

-My horse seems real spooky all of a sudden.

Here’s what I’m hearing from pets:

- Mom’s scared we’re going to lose the house.

- What is this “Bad Economy” and can it get me?

- Dad doesn’t want to play anymore.

- I just can’t shake this feeling that something bad is going to happen.

-I have to protect Mom.

- Mom says we won’t be okay unless we get more money. Where can I get some money?

- Am I going back to the shelter?

- If we lose the house, where will I live?

- If something happens to my family, what will happen to me?

Whether you are truly in a state of financial crisis, or you’re just stressed from the constant onslaught of bad economic news, you need to stop stressing out yourself and your pet.

Pets, especially dogs, are emotional sponges. They will take on our worries and concerns. They will even take on our disease. Often, when I’m talking with a pet, and I notice a pain, the owner will say, “Hey, my shoulder hurts too.”

Little Pitchers have big ears. When you talk or think about…losing your job, losing your house, holding a cardboard sign by the onramp, your pets pick this up. They don’t necessarily understand that you might just be venting.

So, how do we stop this? How do we move forward, away from fear? How do we help our pets?

First thing, tell your pet that it’s going to be okay. Tell them that they don’t have to be an emotional sponge.

2. Don’t vent in front of your pet. You can cry a little on their shoulder, but then tell them thank you and that it’s going to be OK.

3. if you are in financial crisis, start planning now for how you’re going to take care of your pet if you need to re-home him or her. Don’t avoid doing this.

4. Shut off the news. There is just as much money and resources as there ever was. It’s our mindset that’s dragging us down.

5. Stop: drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, eating unhealthy snacks, obsessively playing solitaire. Stop your obsessions. Stop the things that take you out of the moment. Face the moment. It’s not so bad.

6. Take hot baths with kosher salt. Do yoga. Pray. Be nice to you.

7. Tell yourself it’s going to be okay. If you don’t believe you, say, “Bridget says it’s going to be okay.” If you don’t believe me, ask a trusted friend to tell you that it’s going to be okay. Then say to yourself, “Bob says it’s going to be okay.”

It’s going to be okay. I promise.

I spent the weekend at the Tired Dog Ranch, a retreat near Oakridge, Oregon. Amy Jo and Sally, the owners of the Tired Dog, also own: 10 horses, 4 dogs, 23 cats, 6 goats, many chickens and ducks, and a young wild turkey.

They are all rescues. They ended up at the ranch because Sally or Amy Jo answered the phone, and someone said, “Do you know somebody who might?”

My better half, Brian, and I are partial to their dog, Wally. He was a skinny dumped pup who ended up on their doorstep.

The last time I visited Amy Jo and Sally, Wally followed me through the orchard. He stopped me and said, “If you need a place to stay, this is a good one.”

If I could, I’d take Amy Jo and Sally on a global tour of kindred spirits.

We’d stop first in Majorca, at the Finca Sant Blai to visit our friend, Marta and her donkey Pepper. Here’s Pepper, traversing the Majorcan Alps.

Okay, okay. There are no alps here. Majorca is not a large island.

People move to the Majorca, find they can’t afford to live there, and move away, leaving their pets behind. When Marta bought Finca Sant Blai, she inquired about the animal inhabitants, including Pepper, Blas (another donkey) and Angel (a pony). They were going to be sold to who knows where. Marta kept them.

She brought her rescued pets to Majorca as well, two cats and a dog. Then she adopted a husky from rescue, and also took in two bunnies. She runs this former farm as a beautiful hostel.

Marta said that there are two animal rescue organizations on the island that try to address the issue of homeless pets. Some even transport homeless pets to Germany, in the hopes that they find their forever homes.

After a long visit, we’d leave Pepper in charge, and Marta, AJ, Sally and I would head on down to New South Wales to visit Billie Dean and her husband Andrew Einspruch. They run an animal rescue and sanctuary called Ballyoncree.

Animal communicators, filmmakers and writers, Billie and Andrew and their daughter Tamsin take in and rehabilitate brumbies (the feral horse of Australia!).

I think that Billie and Andrew and Tamsin and Marta and AJ and Sally and I would find lots to talk about.

Perhaps you feed feral cats, or volunteer at a shelter, or tell a chained dog that he’s a good boy. It is good to know you! It is these acts, all over the world, that bring honor and dignity to our feathered, finned and furred kin. I am hoping that in the coming year, we will find new ways to meet and talk together, helping animals all over the world.

Six months after my talk with Beulah, we fostered a litter of kittens and their mama. They were left in a cardboard box in the Sandy Pioneer cemetery. A really nice lady found them, and carried them home to her apartment, where she risked eviction for a week caring for them.

Sadie and her seven kittens took up residence in our bathroom for the next 2 months. One of the kittens was in continuous attack mode, beating up every last one of his brothers and sisters. He was the runt, so I think he had a little Napoleon complex. We named him, “Meany-butt.”

About a month into their stay, he jumped up on the couch.

I said, “Hi Meany-butt.”

He said, “My name is not Meany-Butt. My name is Arthur!” He settled at the end of the couch.

I questioned my sanity at this point. This little kitten was shouting at me! How would he know that his name is Arthur? Such a little kitten with such an important name. We called him “Arthur” from that point forward, and his adoptive family continued to call him Arthur. He got his point across, loud and clear.

Arthur and Leo

Most people experience moments like this. They pass it off as imagination or coincidence. If this happens to you, it’s your powerful intuition that you’re denying. It’s like tying an arm behind your back and then pretending it’s not there. Why would you want to do that?

You would want to do that because you wouldn’t want people to call you weird. That’s normal. So, just talk back and don’t tell anybody until you’re ready. It’s okay to grow into your intuitive powers without having to admit it.

Tomorrow, part 3. I’ll tell you how my intuitive powers took off…

Are you here because you want to have a better relationship with your pet? Are you curious about animal communication? Do you have a pet with an annoying behavioral problem, and you just want it solved.

Well, hey, you’ve come to the right place. Pets are a wonderful part of our lives. They’re here to teach us about life, and to share themselves fully with us. It’s hard sometimes to get along with even the best pet.

This blog is about exploring the pet relationship. You’ll hear from my pets, from my client’s pets, and maybe you’ll even hear something from your pet.
